And this is the entrance to the dome.  See the cornice on the left?  The dome is where I am currently staying.  This is about a 35 foot ramp of snow leading down into the dome.  I have to climb this ramp every morning heading to breakfast.  My first few weeks here, climbing this ramp at this altitude in 65 below temps, just about made me give up breakfast.

The Dome was constructed in 1977.  At that time, it was sitting on top of the snow.  The snow that has built up around it is accumulation from blowing snow.  Pretty amazing for a place that is so dry there is no recordable precipitation.  The dome is slated to be torn down next year.
